That is the subject or first line in many emails that you will see coming into your mailbox. We have clients that forward these emails to us and have people that call us and ask about this. So we figured it was time to explain why you should just delete these emails and pretend you never saw them.

The reason is quite simple, there are multiple ways SEO or Search Engine Optimization can be done, the question is what methods is the company you are dealing with using. That is of course assuming they actually do what they say they will do in the first place.

When it comes to seo or Search engine Optimization, there is such a thing called unethical SEO. These are basically brute force methods that are designed to have relatively quick, but short term results. The reason is simple, the tactics used work, but only for a short period of time because the search engines search for anomalies like this and then ban the sites. Yes, you read that right, they will ban sites that use unethical procedures to get ranked. Don´t think they will do it to your website? Think again, they did it in the past to a company you may have heard of, called BMW. So you think they will have any hesitation banning you?

Think about it this way, the can-spam act is something that most ethical marketers hold in very high regard. This means they will not send them out, they will probably not do business with people that do and many of them take the time to report spam when it comes in. It is in our best interest to keep spam at a minimum, because of its value as a marketing tool. Now the guy that just sent you the email that violates at least 2 if not 3 of the very basic things the can-spam act deals with. Basically giving no regard to one of the basic ethical things marketers rely on, yet they want you to consider using them for your Search Engine Optimization? Is that a risk you are willing to run? Is that something you should even think about? If you answer is, well I guess I should just delete these emails, then you are probably correct, at least if you do care about your business and being found online.

If you are serious about doing Search Engine Optimization (SEO), then find a company that is reputable, does not use black hat or unethical way to get you ranked and produces results that will actually last. If Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is done right, it´s an investment you will never regret.
